License And Certifications

National Board of Certified Counselors

The National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates (NBCC) is the premier credentialing body for counselors, ensuring that counselors who become board certified have achieved the highest standard of practice through education, examination, supervision, experience, and ethical guidelines.

NC Board of Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors

The mission of the Board under NC GS Article 24 section 90-329 states that it is declared to be the public policy of this State that the activities of persons who render counseling services to the public be regulated to ensure the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare.

NC Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board (NCSAPPB)

The North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board became a duly chartered corporation in August 1984. In 2005, it became mandatory to hold a substance abuse credential in order to practice substance abuse services.

Marriage and Family Therapist Licensure

Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) are mental health specialists who treat and diagnose a host of disorders related to psychotherapy and mental health. For this reason, MFTs are held to strict licensure requirements, which include at least a master’s level education in the field or a related field as well as a period of supervised clinical practice. Licensure requirements vary by state, though many are similar having modeled their requirements after the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy recommendations.
